Former RCMP Officer Gary Law officially announced his candidacy for Richmond City Council on June 16, 2026, during a campaign launch event held at Continental Seafood Restaurant in Richmond. More than 450 supporters, community leaders and residents attended the event, marking the official beginning of Gary's campaign for the October 17, 2026 Richmond municipal election.

Running with Advance Richmond, Gary shared his vision for a safer, more accountable and more livable Richmond. Drawing on decades of public service through the RCMP, the Canadian Army Reserve and community leadership, he pledged to bring practical public safety experience and responsible leadership to City Hall.

Gary delivered one of the evening's most memorable campaign messages:

“For all the drug dealers, we are coming for you. We are going to show you what safe communities look like, and we are going to show you Richmond's power. We are going to get Richmond back. I am the Law. Law for Safety. Law for Richmond.”

The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, reflecting strong support for Gary's message on community safety and his vision for Richmond.

The event was attended by community leaders and elected officials, including BC MLA Teresa Wat, together with supporters, volunteers and residents from across Richmond.
